We are constantly being
asked what is happening to Somerville Models.
Spa Croft
Models spoke with Graham Ward of Promod, the new owners of the Somerville
company and we were advised that dealers would be informed of the company's
plans by the end of February. As of 18th March 2004, no further information
has been forthcoming. We do know however that the high specification which
we all expected from Somerville Models will not be maintained to the same
degree by the new company. Promod would like to widen the market for
Somerville Models by putting them on the market at a lower price. They
cannot achieve this and produce models to the same high standard at the same
time. It is intended therefore to reduce the unit production time by having
many of the seperately plated parts cast integrally with the body, such as
door handles, windscreen wipers etc., and possibly, head lamp lens will
disappear. The new models will therefore, haver more in common with the
early Somervilles, than with the most recent Somerville products. Somerville Models also have advanced plans for a new model
which should be included in the range at an early stage. As soon as we learn
anything else, we shall post the information on the web site |
